Digital Communications Intern

Location: Remote work (preferably UK-based)
Reporting to: Communications Manager
Working hours: 8 hours per week
Duration: end of December 2022
Job Status: Unpaid Internship
Starting date: Week of 26 September 2022
Picture People is a UK educational charity empowering people to use visual media and technology to spread knowledge and advocate for social and environmental justice. Our work includes capacity building, training workshops, seminars, consultancy, and mentoring. We have a strong focus on engaging youth, change makers and civil society.
About this role
Our small but dedicated organisation is looking for a Digital Communications Intern who will work closely with Picture People’s Communications and Engagement (C&E) team to develop and curate content, build audiences, and create social impact.
As part of the C&E team, you will focus on day-to-day creation, publication, and promotion of content on Picture People digital platforms, including articles, research, videos, and social media for a range of projects. You will also support the management of communications tasks, and work to increase Picture People’s public profile in the UK and overseas by pursuing content partnerships and media publishing opportunities.
The role has a strong focus on writing, editing, and digital outreach, with a good capacity to understand and communicate human rights and social issues to various audiences. This position offers you an opportunity to propose new ideas and explore areas of interest.
You will be working remotely in an agile environment with an international team.
This is an entry-level position for final year degree students or graduates looking for a career in communications. The position is non-remunerated except for limited benefits (local travel and meals will be covered).
We are looking to fill the position quickly, and ideally would like someone to start in late September 2022.
What you will gain
We are offering the opportunity to become part of our team, work with us at your own pace, and network with like-minded people. At the end of the internship, you will have gained valuable experience in digital communications, outreach engagement, online campaigning, digital marketing, editorial and copywriting work, content marketing tools, and social media management.
