ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT INTERN

Location: Remote work 

Reporting to: Communication and Engagement Manager

Working hours: 8/10 hours per week

Duration: 6 months

Job Status: Unpaid Internship

Starting date: Mid February 2022

About this role

Our small but dedicated team is looking for an Alumni Engagement Intern who will work closely with Picture People’s Communications and Engagement (C&E) team to strengthen our alumni network, increase its visibility, organise events, build audiences, develop and curate content, and create social impact.

​

As part of the C&E team, you will focus on the creation, publication, and promotion of Picture People alumni stories, including articles, videos and social media. You will use your relationship and organisational skills to develop educational and promotional approaches, coordinate alumni online events, support alumni’s career development to foster and strengthen the existing network of alumni.

​

You will be able to think outside the box, respect deadlines, and provide support in delivering promotional campaigns, and will enjoy working remotely.

​

We are looking for an intern with a researcher’s profile, who is either in their final degree year or recently graduated. You will be required to research online in academia and film festivals, in order to build collaborations/partnerships and discover job opportunities related to the human rights and digital media sectors.

​

The position is non-remunerated except for limited benefits (local travel and meals will be covered).

​

We are looking to fill the position quickly, ideally someone to start mid February  2022.

​

At the end of this internship, you will have gained valuable experience in relationship building, project management, online campaigning, digital marketing, event management as well as editorial and copy writing work.

Key Responsibilities

Your role and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following organisational and promotional activities:

  • Plan and coordinate events and alumni reunions, including online film screenings, photo competitions, quarterly webinars and Zoom conferences with key experts in the human rights, filmmaking and NGO sectors.

  • Work with alumni to identify local partners to host screenings and discussions at community events.

  • Investigate how Picture People can upskill alumni members through programmes and workshops

  • Support the Communication Team on creating resource material for alumni.

  • Promote and foster alumni relations through written and digital media communication (alumni specific e-newsletter, emails, blogs and social media) with the assistance of the Communication Team

  • Develop and manage alumni social media communities

  • Work with the Executive Director to identify alumni representatives for the Summer School Programme and field workshops who will help develop events with specific alumni clusters to enhance local engagement.

  • Update the alumni database and online platform including recent alumni achievements (film awards, film productions, publications, etc…).

  • Support the implementation of the draft Alumni Engagement Strategy 2022 and manage the budget for all alumni activities.

Desired Skills / Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who align with our organisational goals of human rights, democracy, social and environmental justice, and have a background working with charitable/not for profit organisations.

 

  • Professional-level English writing and editing abilities.

  • Diploma in Communications, Law, Media, Journalism

  • Strong communications skills, including in speaking and presenting, and organizational skills.

  • High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new technology quickly.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, willingness to learn new things, build expertise, and develop new approaches.

  • Familiarity working in virtual workplaces with decentralised teams.

  • Possesses a proactive and growth mindset.

  • Ability to take on a variety of deadline-driven tasks with limited supervision.

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humour

 

An advantage if:

  • Experience in the non-profit, international development or academia sector

  • Background in communication sciences or filmmaking studies

  • Languages (French, Spanish, Italian or other)
